A process and a device for measuring a distance are described using an opto-trigonometric arrangement and a photoelectronic positioning determination. The target (2) is irradiated by means of light radiation (S<u1>u) and the impact point (T<u1>u) is optically represented on a linear photodetector (5) by means of an oblique angle (B) to the irradiation direction. The spatial position (d<u2>u) of the impact image is determined by means of an electronic scanning by the photodetector and from there, the distance (D<u1>u) from the target is measured by means of trionometric relations. Preferred alternatives are specially intended for measuring short distances and hollow profiles.
