Cyclopropanecarboxylic esters of the formula <IMAGE> in which X1 and X2 in each case represent methyl, fluorine, chlorine or bromine, X3 and X4 in each case represent chlorine or bromine, R1 represents hydrogen or methyl, R2 represents hydrogen, methyl, cyano or ethynyl, Y1 represents methyl or trifluoromethyl and Y2 represents hydrogen, methyl, or trifluoromethyl, or R1 represents ethyl, R2 represents hydrogen, methyl, cyano and ethynyl and Y1 and Y2 in each case represent hydrogen, halogen, methyl or trifluoromethyl, as active ingredient in pesticides. The use of these compositions for controlling pests on animals and plants is described.
