摘要 PURPOSE:To ensure a high-quality reproduction, by carrying out an optical recording to a vertical magnetic anisotropy layer having a high coercive force during the recording and detecting the relfected light sent from a vertical magnetic anisotropy layer having a large magneto-optical effect and a low coercive force during the reproduction. CONSTITUTION:The light given from a laser beam source 15 is irradiated to a writing layer 11 having a low Curie point and a high coercive force via a half mirror 16 and a condenser lens 17 to be recorded by a magnetic field coil 18. At the same time, the light from the source 15 is polarized by a polarizer 21 and irradiated to a reading layer 13 having a large magneto-optical effect and a low coercive force through a half mirror 16 and a condenser lens 17. This polarized light causes the rotation on a polarizing surface by the Faraday effect, is reflected by a reflecting film 12, passes through the layer 13, and causes the rotation again on the polarizing surface to be supplied to a detector 22. Then a change is detected for the degree of rotation on the polarizing surface, and this detected degree of change is converted into the electric signal through a photoelectric transducer 23 for the reproduction.
