PURPOSE:To obtain a weather resistant and corrosion resistant stainless steel material wire which is usable in general atmospheres by forming a film layer of Zn, Al or Mg or their alloys on the surface of a stainless steel. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a stainless steel material is cleaned with an org. solvent or the like to remove oil and dust, and further it is immersed in an acid such as hydrochloric acid, whereby a passive state layer is removed. At this time, electrolytic cleaning is best. A film of Zn, Al, Mg or their alloys is formed on the surface of this pretreated stainless steel material to about 1-200mmu thicknesses by a plating method or the like. Then, the film layer serves as a sacrifice anode for the weak corrosion resistant Cl<-> of the stainless steel in particular, thereby hampering the dissolution of the passive state film of the stainless steel and suppressing the electrochemical reaction between the base metal and an atmosphere. The film layer traps Cl<-> and makes the effect upon the base metal difficult. In this case, the film layer is baser than the active state potential of the stainless steel, it has similar effect in the active state part as well. |
