<p>A machine for brushing the whole of the exterior surface of a round cheese or other object of similar shape, size and wt. comprises an infeed conveyor which delivers the cheese to, and deposits it upon, a turning station. At the turning station the cheese rests upon support rollers on which it is freely rotatable about its own central axis in a vertical position. Edge rollers centralise the cheese on the support rollers and provide a friction drive which turns the cheese around its vertical axis. Two lower rotary brush units can be brought into cleaning contact with the underside of the cheese and with the angle of intersection between the underside and the circumferential edge two upper, rotary brush units can be brought into cleaning contact with the top surface of the cheese and with the angle of intersection between the top surface the circumferential edge. A rotary brush on an oscillatory mounting can be brought into cleaning contact with the circumferential edge of the cheese. Beneath the turning station, a recovery conveyor catches particles brushed off the cheese and evacuates them from the machine. The machine mechanises a previously labour-intensive task so that prodn. costs are reduced.</p> |
