Digital subscriber terminal unit for speech and data - transmits data information when message is complete, using full duplex multiplexer

The modified terminal unit speeds data transmission time by eliminating waiting. Data are sent out when a message is complete or when an end of data signal is generated. The subscriber terminal (UMET) contains a full duplex multiplexer (FDMUX). It is connected to the outgoing line by a time division multiplexer (ZE). The terminal side is connected to the data appts. in use, e.g. a facsimile unit, visual display or teleprinter (DEE). The connection is made through a memory unit (ME). Data to be transmitted are accumulated in the memory and released for transmission when the memory is full or an end of message signal is received. Actual transmission then takes place at the earliest opportunity. Connection of a terminal (DEE) is recognised by the memory which then automatically scans it for data to be sent.
