Seal for joint line between core box halves - obtd. by casting elastomer sealing rail in groove surrounding cavity in core box

The core box consists of two or more halves; and at least one completed half is provided with a groove round the edge of the cavity which will be filled with sand or other material to make cores. The master core pattern is placed in the cavity; and the core box is assembled using a spacer to separate the box halves. A rubber-elastic mass is poured or sprayed into the groove and sets to form an elastic sealing rail. Due to the spacer, the sealing rail projects above the groove to form an effective seal during core-blowing. The groove may form pary of a cast core box, or be milled in the box. Esp. in blowing sand cores which may have a complicated shape.
