Aluminium conductor joint - by aluminium sleeve with specified imprints under restraint

An electrical connection is made between aluminium conductors by pushing a connecting sleeve made of aluminium over the joint and by restraining the sleeve through a two-part die, clamped around it. This fixed the sleeve in radial and axial direction. A punch is then applied through recesses in the die at a pressure of 2.5-15 tonnes to produce a unit surface redn. of sleeve and conductors of 10-25%. An aluminium sleeve (17) is pushed over the ends of the aluminium conductors (19). A two-part die (11), of which only the lower part is illustrated, is clipped over the sleeve to restrain it both on the end faces (13) by a collar (12') and on the periphery. This prevents any migration of the material of sleeve and conductor so that the molecular joint produced ensures a satisfactory electrical connection without welding. PS.
