Cleaning device for a copier

A cleaning device for an electrophotographic copier can be operated in a first mode in which a film-forming material having a low coefficient of friction is applied to one surface of a photosensitive part, which has previously been subjected to a cleaning, in order to improve the cleaning action, or the cleaning device can be operated in a second mode in which such a material is not applied to the photosensitive part. To this end, the cleaning device exhibits a brush which can be brought into contact with the photosensitive part and can be removed from contact with said photosensitive part, in order selectively to apply the film-forming material to the photosensitive part. The brush is designed as a rotating brush which is brought by pressure into contact with a shaped block of this material. The application of the appropriate quantity of material is ensured in that the period of time during which the brush is in contact with the photosensitive part and the contact of the brush with the material block etc. are controlled appropriately.
