The control has a valve restricting the flow of fluid to the drive. The drive moves a body linearly. The valve is controlled by a setting device (11,14,15) which is operated in accordance with the movement of the body such that the setting device converts the continued motion of the body along its path into a continual restriction of fluid flow to the drive by the valve (5). The setting device has a control member (11) moved by the body and coupled (14) to the moving part of the valve. The coupler (14) is switched on when the body reaches the starting point of the selected section of its path of travel. The advantage lies in bringing the body reliably and safely to a stop without oscillations.
