The upholstering machine, as in 3009464, has a work supporting surface on which the chair seat is placed so that upholstery material can be applied by stretching a covering material over it and around the edges. A nailing or stapling device is then operated to secure the folded edge of the material to the frame. This is supported above the work surface and can be controlled by an adjacent set of push-buttons (4). The nailing device is supported by a system of swing arms and joints with braking members. After a nailing cycle has been completed it is stopped in a position ready for the next cycle. This universal support system permits rotation in a vertical and a horizontal plane, as well as a horizontal advance towards the edge of the frame.
