The automatic electronic telephone exchange provides facilities for reconnecting incoming calls to a different number at the subscribers request. Such a request is stored in a memory and acted on automatically if a call to the original number is not answered within a set time. Reconnecting a call in this manner amounts to setting up a second call. Also the reconnected call could involve a trunk connection. This can lead to higher charges than a caller anticipated when dialling the original number. To appraise a caller that a condition involving a reconnection exists an audible signal is sent out by the exchange to the caller. At the same time information about the charge rate which will apply for the call is also transmitted to the caller. He is then allowed a set time interval in which to terminate the connection without charge. The proposed information can be transmitted to the caller also in the case where the reconnected part of the call is chargeable to the subscriber being called.
