The process for dyeing a fabric web is to be further developed in such a way that a relatively bulky (voluminous) material can be saturated uniformly with dye solution in a continuous operation and that the dye is fixed effectively and uniformly in a very short time. According to the invention, the fabric web is passed continuously through a high-pressure steamer (ager) containing saturated steam at from 100 to 160 DEG C, where it is swelled by the moist heat, and is then saturated to the core with the dye solution, the colour being fixed by the action of the hot saturated steam.
