Sealing means for a projectile 10 to be fired from a rifled cannon barrel and for mounting on the projectile so as to be rotationally slidable relative thereto. A preferred embodiment of the sealing ring comprises a ring 16 of a non-metallic material, said ring being mountable on a circular body part 20 of the projectile. An outer portion of the sealing ring has a number of peripheral gaps 26, substantially parallel to each other and tilting rearwards for delimiting a number of chevron-like bodies 28 designed for forced engagement with the rifling of the cannon barrel. The inner of the sealing ring is designed to slide rotationally relative to the rear portion of the projectile when the projectile runs through the cannon barrel, hereby advantageously reducing the rotation of the projectile caused by the rifling. The sealing ring may be designed such that it fractures when it leaves the cannon barrel, but in another embodiment, a coating of a heat resisting wire material 36 may be used, placed in at least some of the grooves, said wire material enhancing the peripheral strength of the sealing ring. <IMAGE>
