PURPOSE:To economically and effectively cool the cylinder etc. of an engine in which excess oil is returned into an oil sump through a relief valve in the rapid rotation of the engine, by causing the oil, which is to be returned into the oil sump, to flow through the cooling passage of the cylinder etc. CONSTITUTION:An oil pump 2 is connected to a crankshaft so that the quantity of discharge from the pump 2 increases in proportion to the rise in the rotational frequency of the crankshaft. Oil discharged from the pump 2 is supplied to the sliding parts 5 of the crankshaft, a cam shaft, etc. through a lubrication passage 4 provided with a filter 3 to lubricate the sliding parts 5. The oil is thereafter returned into an oil sump 1. When oil more than an amount necessary for the sliding parts 5 is discharged from the pump 2 due to the rapid rotation of an engine, a relief valve 8 is opened so that excess oil flows through a cooling passage 6 to cool a cylinder, a cylinder head, etc. and then returns into the oil sump 1 through the relief valve 8. |
