PURPOSE:To obtain a wear-resistant magnetic head that has a wide linearity plus a reduced Barkhausen noise and thermal effect, by forming a thin film of a magnetic anisotropic Ni-Co alloy onto a sapphire single crystal substrate. CONSTITUTION:A thin film of an alloy of 90Ni-10Co-30Ni-70Co is coated at >=250 deg.C onto a plate type substrate 4 cut out of a single crystal of sapphire so as to secure a main face especially of a face R (-110-2) or face A (11-20) having a >=45 deg. angle to a face C (orthogonal to axis c). Thus an MRE element part 5 is formed. A terminal part is formed with a conductive layer 6 on the extended line of both ends of the part 5. A DC power source S is connected to the area between the terminals via a resistance R to be used as an output extracting terminal. Then a bias magnetic field H is applied in the direction along the surface of the film 5 and orthogonal to the current I. In such way, a wide linearity is obtained with a wear resistance plus a reduced Barkhausen noise and thermal effect respectively for a magnetic head. |
