<p>PURPOSE:To achieve high-speed character recognition by extracting a feature matrix by calculating the line length of each area by dividing a subpattern, extracted from a character pattern, areas. CONSTITUTION:The luminosity of each cell of a character pattern is converted 2 photoelectrically for binary coding to obtain an original pattern, which is stored in a pattern register 3. From this original pattern, subpatterns showing stroke component in respective directions are extracted 6-9 and stored in a subpattern register, and the area in the character frame of the original pattern is divided into (NXM) areas; and the feature amount showing the character line lingth in each area is calculated as to each cell and then normalized by the size of the character to generate 10 a feature matrix, which is collated with a dictionary to discriminate 11 the character.</p> |
