1-Butene dimer was prepd. by reaction of 1-butene or C4 oil compn. contg. 1-butene in the presence of aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon and organic catalyst at temp. 150-250≦̸C in 2 hrs. Aliphatic hydrocarbon means hexane, heptane, octane; aromatic hydrocarbon means benzene, toluene, xylene; and org. aluminum catalyst means triethylaluminum, tributhyl alminum or triisobuthyl aluminum.
