The invention relates to a thermal flowmeter for measuring the flow of a fluid in a channel or pipe by means of a heating resistor introduced into the fluid flow and two temperature sensors arranged upstream and downstream of the resistor, characterized in that the inlet sensor arranged upstream is further away from the heating resistor than the outlet sensor arranged downstream. Furthermore, the invention relates to an electronic process for the treatment of signals which have been transmitted to a heating resistor introduced into a fluid flow and/or have been received by this, and of signals from two temperature sensors which are arranged upstream and downstream of the resistor, for measuring the flow of the fluid moving inside a pipe or channel, characterised in that the supply source of the heating resistor is controlled with a cycle of period T and with a variable ratio tau .
