A stuffing box (10) for accommodating a shaft seal is situated downstream of a pump casing (1), a fan impeller (7) being arranged on the pump shaft (2). In order to avoid evaporation within the shaft seals, there are arranged between the pump casing (1) and the stuffing box (10) a plurality of annular spacers (8) provided with cooling surfaces (13), the spacers (8) being insulated with respect to one another, with respect to the pump casing (1) and with respect to the stuffing box (10). <IMAGE>
