MANUFACTURE OF HIGH DENSITY SILICON CARBIDE SINTERED BODY

A dense sintered silicon carbide ceramic which has high strength and a flexural strength of at least 25 kg/mm2 at room temperature and 1400.degree.C is obtained by molding a mixture of an aluminum oxide source in an amount of 0.5 to 35 wt.% as A?2O3 and silicon carbide in a substantial remainder portion followed by pressureless sintering.
