PURPOSE:To prevent outflow of hydraulic oil by returning the oil discharged from a relief valve into the low pressure passage such as an oil pump suction passage etc. formed in a pump housing. CONSTITUTION:The oil pump of this automatic transmission gear is so constituted that the oil discharged from the relief valve 82 installed on a pump housing 9 (a pump cover 8 in the figure) is returned into the low pressure passage (cavity 36 which serves as a pump suction passage, in the figure) in the pump housing 9 in order to prevent rise of the torque converter hydraulic oil pressure above the necessary by removing the excessive oil. Therefore, such a trouble can be avoided that the oil discharged from the relief valve 82 is scattered by the rotating body in a transmission case and so much quantity of oil as to fill up the air breezer cavity 40 enters the cavity, preventing function, the air breezer and the oil is ejected outside from a port 78.
