Universal joint incorporating four journals - has clevis formed from two pressed steel identical halves riveted together

The universal joint consists of a cross piece having four journals (2). Each opposing pair of journals carries a shaft clevis (10). The clevis is fabricated from two identical halves (4) fixed together with rivets (12). End cap bearings (3) are fitted to the clevis prior to assembly. On assembly, an opening (6) is formed to receive the end of the shaft. The nut and bolt (15) serve to lock the end of the shaft in the joint housing (6) and to complete the clamping of the two halves of the clevis along with the rivet.
