The intramuscular injection instrument is particularly for insulin, having a syringe in a holder and an actuating mechanism inserting the needle and thrusting the syringe plunger forward. The holder can be cocked against spring action and secured by a catch, while a slide acting on the plunger rod is moved by a pistol-grip trigger. The spring-loaded (20) slide (5) can be braked, and the trigger (7) is spring-loaded (33) into frictional contact with the slide. There can be a braking and locking member (31) between the slide and the trigger, bearing automatically against the former.
