Spun-yarn prodn. from filament wrapped roving - using low break draft to pretension filament without rupturing it

Yarn spinning process uses a roving wrapped with a continuous filament yarn, pref. a cold-drawn, pre-oriented polyester filament, and subjected to a break draft, pref. between 1.1 and 1.4, which merely pre-tensions the filament yarn, which is subsequently broken in the main drafting zone. This process gives a uniform yarn without requiring regorously-controlled extension at break of the filament yarn, or the precise geometrical orientation in the roving which are demanded by earlier processes in which the filament is ruptured in the break-draft zone.
