The tooth extraction tongs comprise two arms hinging together by means of a screw with a countersunk head, engaging in a tapped hole in one of them and passing through the other. The underside (11) of the screw head is part-spherical, fitting in a mating cup portion in one of the arms (1), while a spring component, typically an O-ring of rubber or plastic (12), fits between the two arms. The design allows the jaws to perform a self-aligning movement, thus bringing a greater surface area into contact with that of the tooth.
