The automobile speed control for a combustion engine drive has the accelerator pedal (10), operated by the driver, coupled to an electronic control circuit (11) for adjusting the speed regulator (14). An end switch (15) is provided in the rest position of the accelerator pedal (10), via which the current for the control circuit (11) and/or the setting motor (13) for the speed regulator (14) is cut-off to ensure that the speed is zero when the pedal (10) is released. The adjustment of the speed regulator (14) is pref. effected via a stepping motor (13) receiving the output of the control circuit (11) and automatically coming to rest if the current fails. The speed control prevents the speed increasing against the desire of the driver due to a fault in the control circuit.
