The support roller for a conveyor band or a roller track has face walls at both ends of a cylindrical cover element in which cylindrical capsules are formed which extend directly from the face wall towards the interior. At least one of the face walls including the capsule is formed out of the end of the cover element by the latter being first reduced and then inverted. A cylindrical section is formed on the end of the cover element by a first reduction with the dia. of the cylindrical section being smaller than that of the cover element but greater than that of the capsule being produced and with its length being equal to the capsule axial length. At the end of this section a second reduction takes place to bring it to a dia. smaller than that of the capsule being produced and finally the end is enclosed at its outer circumference and pressed back into the cover element.
