A low-frequency amplifier has a feedback arm which is used to compensate for non-linearities in the load impedance. A low-frequency amplifier of this type is intended to be provided with a circuit which automatically compensates for a counter-electromotive force generated by a connected consumer and which prevents both the low-frequency amplifier and the load from being damaged by any extreme voltages which might occur. It is proposed to provide a device (see Fig. 2) which is intended to prevent damage to the low-frequency amplifier or the load due to overvoltage, this device comprising a switch, which is disposed between the low-frequency amplifier and the consumer, and a controller, which monitors the input voltage of the feedback arm and opens the switch or holds it in the open condition if the input voltage of the feedback arm exceeds a predefined ideal value. <IMAGE>
