The tripod particularly for supporting a searchlight has its three legs connected by hinges to a mounting which supports a system of telescopic tubes (2) for adjusting the height of the searchlight. An outer tube (10) encloses four inner tubes (6,7,8,9) which can be locked in any extended position by a set of thumb screws. Each tube carries a sealing disc (11) across its bottom end, used in a system for regulating the rate of extending or retracting the tubes. Each disc has a central hole (12) acting as a throttling opening to control the entry or discharge of air from the interior of the tubes. The disc (13) closing the outer tube has a connection (14) to which can be attached a tube fitted with a valve to control the rate of air discharged when the searchlight is lowered. |
