PURPOSE:To facilitate handling of data concerning economical use of an external storage device, a reduction of the data transmission time, etc., by compressing the input image data for input and then enlarging the image data for output respectively in the operation of image data. CONSTITUTION:Picture information is read by an image reader Im-R2 and stored in an external storage device like a magnetic disk 7, etc. or transmitted through a communication circuit 5 after giving proper compression to the image data by means of an image data enlarging/compressing device 8. In case the image data is delivered to a display device 6, an image printer, etc., the compressed image data read out of an external storage device 7 is properly enlaged through the device 8. At the same time, the compressed image data transmitted through the circuit 5 is enlarged by the device 8. As a result, the compressed image data is stored and transmitted to increase the storing efficiency of an external storing device. Thus the image trasmission time can be reduced. |
