The cutting means is intended for use in connection with an apparatus for lifting pipes laid on the sea floor. Such an apparatus comprises a frame carrying a sealing and pulling head and auxiliary means for controlling the lifting apparatus down onto the pipe and also for keeping the apparatus on the pipe during the operation. Prior to the introduction of the sealing and pulling head into the pipe end, any defective portion of the pipe 3, 4 must be cut by means of the cutting means 58 constituted by a circular, toothed ring 65 which is divided such that it may be led down around the pipe. At the top of the ring 65 there is a swingable arm 69 at each end of which a cutting means 72, 74 is mounted. At turning of the toothed ring 65 by means of the swingable arm 69, the concrete covering 4 is firstly cut through, and subsequently at further turning the steel pipe 3 proper. By dividing the cutting operation in two, both of these processes can be performed under the most advantageous conditions. <IMAGE>
