<p>A conveyor is used to drive the workpieces through a gas filled tunnel in an induction furnace. The tunnel slopes upwards towards its outlet end, from which the hot workpieces are removed, and the angle (gamma) of slope of the tunnel is adjusted, to create a chimney effect compensating by the increasing temp. of the workpieces in the tunnel. The pref. induction furnace is fitted with feet of adjustable height on its outlet end, and pref. also a hood restricting the rapid exit of gas from the tunnel. The arrangement prevents a drop in the pressure of the protective gas near the outlet of the tunnel, and therefore decreases the amt. of scale formed, e.g. on steel billets being heated prior to entering a forging press.</p> |
