The ignition system is for an internal combustion engine with a circuit to start the ignition at any required ignition time. It has a device, which acts as a source for supplying an adjustable amount of energy to the spark plug during an adjustable period after ignition has taken place. The source is a capacitive element (CB). There is a dc-dc converter, which transforms a low battery voltage into a high voltage for loading the capacitor. The capacitor can consist of several components, which are charged sequentially to the desired voltage and discharged sequentially through the spark plug.
