A process for the production of wall coverings with a surface of textile threads whereby a series of transverse (weft) threads are deposited on the surface of a moving drum or conveyor, whence they are transferred to an adhesive-coated backing paper, along with an interior or superior layer of longitudinal (warp) threads. The spacing of the weft threads is controlled by rows of pins along the side of the conveyor, and a suction device beneath it which holds the threads in position. A mechanical pneumatic or electrostatic device transfers the thread sheet to the backing without disruption, where it is overlain by the warp threads, the entire structure being united by adhesive into a simulated fabric-like surface. The procedure produces a fabric-like surface in a simple and rapid manner from the loosely-superimposed sets of threads. the thread sheets can be inspected and corrected or modified before being applied to the adhesive-coated backing, giving a wide range of pattering or texturing possibilities, and obviating the need for a large stock of fabrics.
|
