PURPOSE:Butene is brought into contact with a catalyst of melted alloy containing potassium or sodium to produce butadiene readily in high yield. CONSTITUTION:Butene is brought into contact with a catalyst of melted alloy containing potassium and sodium, preferaby potassium and indium alloy, potassium and lead alloy or sodium and lead alloy at a temperature higher than the melting point of the alloy used as catalyst, preferably of 570-620 deg.C to produce butadiene, especially 1,3-butadiene in high yield by no use of superheated steam or oxygen. Therefore, this process has high possibility of practical operation. The alloy for the catalyst is readily obtained by a known method. |
