<p>The apparatus limits the rate of rise of current in the series-parallel configuration of the main thyristor (2) bank (1). A string of auxiliary thyristors (3, 4), in parallel with the main bank (1), feed a capacitor (5) which is connected directly to one input (12) of the main firing controller (9) and, via a level detector (11), to a second input (13). It is also connected to the second input (19) of the auxiliary circuit firing controller (10). When the auxiliary thyristors (4) are triggered the capacitor (5) begins to charge. At a predetermined voltage level the main thyristors (2) are triggered through their control circuit and also begin to conduct.</p> |
