PURPOSE:To simplify the control working of a head mechanism, by measuring and storing the distance from the set 1st reference position to the 2nd reference position corresponding to the reference track and carrying out the shift control of a head according to said information. CONSTITUTION:A record/reproduction head 13 is shifted toward the width direction of a tape 11 by the rotation of a step motor 22 via gears 23, 21 and a screw shaft 19. The through-holes 25 and 26 are provided to a disk 24 and the gear 21, and the state of linkage is detected with a light source 27 and a photodetector 28 only once while the head 13 is shifted in the range of width of the tape 11. The 1st reference position where the detection signal is obtained is set with the detector 28, and this signal is detected by the 1st position detecting circuit 30. The information on the shift distance of head is read out of an external memory 29 through a motor control circuit 31, and a motor driving circuit 32 is controlled in accordance with the information. Then the head 13 is shifted to the 2nd reference position to receive a control to the reference track. |
