The container lid applicator has a conveyor belt (2) supported on end legs (1) and running between end pulleys (4). The containers (3) travel along the belt. The lids (9) are stacked in a magazine (11) and drop onto a chain conveyor (12) fitted with spacers (3). The spacers are synchronised with spacers (6) on the container conveyor. The lids are transferred to a third conveyor (16) fitted with a vacuum pad (18) to hold the lid. The lid is pressed down onto the container by a belt conveyor (20) which is horizontal above the containers.
