The dental hygiene instrument comprises a scrapere or blade for tartar removal, mounted at the end of a bent or curved handle. The handle grip and the blade mounting can be inclined to each other, typically at 120 deg., the blade being fixed to the end and protruding from it at right angles to one side. The front blade face can be trapezoid, the large base forming a bevel, while the small one is equal to the handle width. The handle can be of prismatic or round cross-section.
