PURPOSE:To surely prevent failures such as degaussing and the like, by taking out a recording/playback head from a track-occupying range on a tape with a pause instruction. CONSTITUTION:A pause instruction by a pause instruction button operation is detected at a pause detecting circuit 33 and a pause detecting signal is given to a control circuit 31. The information of tracks scanned with a recording/playback head 21 is detected at the control circuit 31 and it is stored in a present position counter 34. A motor driving circuit 32 is controlled at the control circuit 31 in response to the comparison differential signal from a comparison circuit 35, where compares the information of the present track position in the counter 34 with the readout information from a reference position information storage memory 36. That is, the information corresponding to the interval between the reference position and the track can be obtained from the comparison circuit 35. |
