<p>Shutter has a hollow frame made of insulating material and encloses a solar energy heat trap panel behind a transparent pane which is exposed when the shutter is in the open position. Tubular stubs on the back of the shutterengageducts in the wall adjacent to the window to allow heated air to circulate from the shutter to a distribution system which may work by convection or forced draught. Flap valves seal the stubs/ducts when the sutter is closed, i.e. across the window, where the shutters act as an insulated blind The appts. is suitable for augmenting space or water heating etc. without loading the roof or requiring ground space. Opt. the shutter frame is of expanded rigid polyurethane, locally reinforced if necessary. The flap valves may be of rubber or of metal, opt. with thermostatically controlled mechanisms. Alternately the shutter contains a heat sink, to collect heat when open and dissipate it via the window when closed.</p> |
