PURPOSE:To utilize converter slag as cement and aggregate by mixing and melting the converter slag and aluminum sludge. CONSTITUTION:Recovered caustic aluminum sludge formed in the waste liquid treatment of an alumite plant is mixed with converter slag and the mixure is melted and ground. Then, the unstable CaO in the slag reacts with the Al2O3 in the sludge and stabilizes, thereby eliminating collapse by efflorescence. In addition, the Al2O3 bonds with SiO2 as well and is converted to actual hydraulic property. This product is called slag sludge, and for example, the one of about 10% Al2O3 exhibits strength equivalent to or higher than that of Portland cement, and the hydraulic property thereof is fast. Further, the sludge shows the similar scores as those of river sand as aggregate as well. |
