PURPOSE:To provide double resolution to the ordinary resolution of a solid state image pickup device by transferring charge generated at a plurality of photoelectric converters disposed rectilinearly in the prescribed direction, producing the charge as an electric signal by the image pickup device, arranging the converters in double rows, and arranging photoelectric elements at the same pitch in the respective rows and in a displaced manner between the rows. CONSTITUTION:A solid state image pickup device is composed of a photoelectric converting section in which a plurality of photoelectric converters are rectilinearly disposed, a transfer region for transferring the converted charge in the prescribed direction, and means for picking up the charge as an electric signal. In this configuration, the photoelectric converting section has two rows A, B, the output of the section A is applied through a transfer gate 1, a charge transfer region 2 and a delay circuit 3 to an output circuit 4, and the output of the section B is applied through a gate 1' and a transfer region 2' to the circuit 4. At this time the pitches of the elements A1-An and B1-Bn of the sections A and B are the same, but these elements are disposed in opposed manner in displaced from each other between the rows. |
