PURPOSE:To achieve high resolution display while maintaining reliable discharge operation, by providing the discharge regulating electrode chips on each X-electrode and between each Y-electrode. CONSTITUTION:Discharge regulating electrode chips 11 are provided on the surface of first dielectric material layer 5 on X-electrode 4 such that the both ends will approach with same distance to each Y-electrode 6. The width of said regulating electrode chip 11 is wider than that of X-electrode. Consequently when the drive voltage is applied between X-Y electrodes, the electric line of force produced between both electrodes will be concentrated with high density at the end section of said electrode chip 11 while the potential distribution will vary abruptly at this position thereby the high potential field is concentrated at the end section of said electrode chip. Consequently the discharge is concentrated at said end section and never extends. In the drawing (1), (2) are glass substrates. (3) is the discharge gas space, (7) is the second dielectric material layer and (12) is a fluorescent member. |
