PURPOSE:Hemicellulose fractionated from defatted rice bran is used as a substance inhibiting the increase of cholesterols in serum. CONSTITUTION:Rice bran is defatted by a usual method and treated with an amylase to remove the starch. An aqueous alkali solution is made toa act on the residue to dissolve the hemicellulose fraction for extraction. The extract is neutralized to remove the protein precipitated. Further, the residual extract is neutralized and an alcoholic solvent is simultaneously added to obtain hemicellulose. The resultant hemicellulose is purified by dialysis and used as a substance depressing the increase of cholesterols in serum. This substance is superior to NDF mainly consisting of hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin in the activity of inhibiting the cholestrol increase in serum. |
