PURPOSE:To enable tools to be automatically interchanged on a pallet in a transfer machine or the like by utilizing the forward and backward movements of a working unit and the vertical movement of the pallet. CONSTITUTION:A pallet 5 having a tool 4 located and clamped by a tool holder 8 is transferred by a transfer bar 34 to a station in front of an unit 1 needing the interchange of the tool 4. Next, the unit 1 is advanced by an advancing-retreating device 38 to insert the tapered portion of the tool into a tool attaching hole of a spindle 2. During the advance of the unit 1, a working rod 14 is urged by a control plate 26 to retreat integrally sliders 16, 17. Thus, a lock 21 is unlocked so that a working pin 20 opens a cramp arm 10. When the unit 1 is stopped at a predetermined position, the tool 4 is clamped by a clamp device built in the spindle 2 while a clamp member 35 is lowered by a clamping cylinder 37 to lower, locate and clamp the pallet 5 on a jig base 31. |
