PURPOSE:To improve thermal efficiency and prevent the local loss of refractories by controlling the gas-to-liquid ratio of fuel within a range below specific values at the time of heating the cold materials in a converter having double-pipe tuyeres in the bottom part by injecting hydrocarbon type fuel and oxidizing gas through the tuyeres of the converter thereby burning the same. CONSTITUTION:When cold materials 14 are charged through a port 15 into a converter disposed with plural pieces of bottom blowing double-pipe tuyeres 9, a hydrocarbon type fuel is fed from gaseous fuel pipings 6, 7 and oxidizing gas from a oxygen piping 8 to the tuyeres 9 and these are injected into cold material packed layers 16, whereby the heating of the cold materials is started. If at this time a gas- to-liquid ratio (gaseous fuel mass flow rate (kg/H)/liqud fuel mass flow rate (kg/ H)) is controlled to <=0.1, the production of a large amount of unburned matter is suppressed for about 2-10min from the start of heating. It is preferable to make the gas-to-liquid ratio of the tuyeres 9 in proximity to the converter side walls larger than the gas-to-liquid ratio of the tuyeres positioned in the central area of the furnace bottom. |
