PURPOSE:To efficiently remove toner by using a magnetic member, which has many extremely fine projections on the surface, as a cleaning member generating a magnetic field and by making a high-gradient magnetic field operate on the toner. CONSTITUTION:On the upper part of the overall length of a photosensitive drum 6, a cleaning unit 7 is provided and in the inside of casing 8 of the cleaning unit 7, a cleaning roller 9 having on the outermost layer a magnetic roller 4 of nickel, etc., with an infinite number of extremely fine projections is provided over the overall length in parallel to the photosensitive drum 6. On the completion of transfer, toner 12 remaining on the photosensitive drum 6, at the point of time when approaching the cleaning roller 9, is sucked to those projections 5 through the operation of a high-gradient magnetic field. Consequently, the surface of the photoreceptor is cleaned efficiently without allowing the cleaning member to contact with said surface. |
