Stable alkali silicate soln. of high silica content - obtd. by treating soln. with strong mineral acid

Stable alkali silicate solution of high SiO2/R2O ratio is obtd. by treating a soln. of alkali silicate with a strong mineral acid, esp. phosphoric acid. The ratio achieved is at least 3.3 and at least 3.9, and contains 3-30(10-20)% SiO2. Used for ground consolidation. Improved stability of soln. can be achieved at the gel point with a high concn. of SiO2 and a low concn. of metal oxidn.
